Matthew 6:25-27
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
Jesus addresses the issue of worry and encourages His followers not to be consumed by anxiety about their basic needs. He points out that worrying does not add any value or benefit to our lives and emphasizes the loving care of our heavenly Father.
By using the example of birds, Jesus illustrates that God provides for even the smallest creatures in nature, and as humans who bear the image of God, we are of much greater worth to Him. He invites us to trust in God’s faithfulness and provision, rather than succumbing to worry and anxiety.
This verse reminds us that worrying is counterproductive and can be detrimental to our well-being. Instead, we are encouraged to place our trust in God, knowing that He cares for us and will provide for our needs. It encourages us to focus on the present moment, seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness, rather than being consumed by anxious thoughts about the future.
